as did my forbears for many generations. On this account I believe myself entitled to be treated as a Danish subject

having like my parents been born a Dane and having through no

wish of my own beanme a German subject in 1864. I further

desire to inform the Ministry that I have lived in Aabenraa district with certain intervals since my birth, first at Stollig with my parents till 1890; in that year I married

and removed to Aabenraa where I have resided ever since at

a small house, No. Jürgensgaard, which is my property.

Then I went to sea I sailed only with ships belonging to Aabenraa; the shipping firm of M. Jebsen & Co. belongs to Aabenraa and Mr. Jebsen and his family are like myself

born here. Mr. Jebeen of Hong Kong is a son of the shipowner

of the same name of Aabenraa, Owing to the war my cir-

cumstances are almost those of poverty and my house is practi-

cally all that remains to me. Nothing can be hoped for from

the German Government and nothing has yet been done to redress

our losses. I therefore request the Ministry to assist me

in the manner which may seem to it most expedient to recover

my lost fortune.
